As the new year comes around, people start making resolutions that only last a few weeks. I have a few things to say about this… 1) who said the new year was the time to make changes? Why can’t you do it at any time? 2)The reason why they fall through so quickly is the flawed system behind maintaining these new changes. So, how does one change their life and create new habits effectively? Well, I am going to tell you. But first, I have to give credit to the person who inspired this article. I will link the podcast, done by one of my biggest inspirations (Kalyn Nicholson), that inspired this.
We all have habits, good or bad. Most aspects of our lives are habitual, and the changes we want to make in our lives stem from those certain habits we want to implement, change, or remove. Habits impact our lives more than one would expect. Believe it or not, our habits form a large part of our headspace. I mentioned the act of changing parts of our lives to make it better and that comes from our discontent and unhappiness with a certain part of our life, thus impacting our headspace. It should also be noted that these can be major or minor things and they change as time goes on.
Now that we have some background, let’s establish the good and bad habits. The bad habits are the ones that hold you back and prevent you from being the best version of yourself. For me, these bad habits are the usage of my phone, not focusing on things that would enhance my good headspace, pushing back workouts, etc. It is important to make note of these habits because the best way to change them is by noting the good habits you want to start and replacing the bad habits with them. This is when it is key to establish a plan. Set a plan of what habits you are going to put in, replace, and remove from your life and make it detailed. The specific plan places exactly how you are going to incorporate the habits in your life and thus make them a habit.
The habits better your headspace because the goal of these habits is supposed to make your life better and ease the tense parts of your life. For example, the time I would spend on my phone (a bad habit), I could use doing a yoga session or a workout. This will do a lot of good for me because yoga creates a sense of peace and calm for me. It is all about the good you can do for yourself and once you start placing these habits into your life, it will make all the difference.
I hope you start recognizing the importance of habits and start incorporating them into your life and don’t forget to stay vibin!
