LGAS S. 1 E. 4: The Best Advice I Have Ever Been Given

Listen to the episode here:

Throughout my eighteen years of existence, I have received various forms of advice, and today I am going to share some of them with you. I have been so fortunate to interact with so many different types of people who have all played very important parts in guiding me to be a strong and independent young woman. Some of these pieces of advice also come from social media or even things I’ve learned on my own. These pieces of advice range from a variety of different parts of life, so I hope you can utilize at least one of them. If you remember to be mindful of these things, you already improve your life.

  • Let go of things and people that no longer serve you

You should not force yourself to be involved with things and people that no longer make you feel good. We change and grow over time and just like clothes we grow out of people and other parts of our lives and that is totally okay.

  • You only live one life don’t waste it on negative people

This probably sounds repetitive based on my last point but I cannot stress this enough. There is no point in spending time surrounding yourself with people who make you unhappy or make you feel bad. Check out my post on canceling out people’s negativity. You should surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you and make you feel really good.

  • Do not stress over things you have no control over

I cannot stress this one enough. There is no point in making a fuss over something you have no impact on. Simply acknowledge it and then channel your energy into something you CAN control. You control how you react and that reaction impacts how you feel. If you obsess over something you have no power over, you waste your energy that could be used into something positive. Remember that…

  • You are stuck with yourself for your entire life make it count

I have to remind myself of this one a lot. Remember to live every moment to the fullest. Try to stay as connected and present as you can. Live without regrets. Sometimes it’s hard to be mindful of living to the fullest, but try to connect and try to be mindful.

These next bits of advice comes from one of the greatest gifts I have ever received. For my 16th birthday, my aunt made a book filled with advice from her family, friends, and co-workers. I look back through this book every now and then when I need a pick me up or a boost of motivation. Today, I am sharing some quotes and other pieces of advice from this book that I think you should use in your life too.

  • “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” ~ Nelson Mandela

Never stop learning. There is so much of the world that you haven’t explored and there is so much to learn and understand. Learning does not just have to happen in the classroom, it can happen anywhere. Take advantage of the resources at your fingertips (the internet) and learn something new. Learning exposes you to new things and that has so many advantages.

  • Trust that you are exactly where you need to be

Life is not a race and people progress at different paces. Where you are right now is where you are meant to be and that will guide you into being the person you are meant to become. Everyone experiences different things and therefore they are in different places, and that is exactly how it should be.

  • Nobody is perfect

Especially with the influence of the media, there is this expectation to look perfect, be perfect, and not make mistakes. Ignore that. We all make mistakes and we all look the way we do for a reason. Keep that in mind and remember you are amazing the way you are. Your worth is not defined by the media, it is defined by you.

  • Don’t forget to take care of yourself

You are allowed to be selfish and take time to do things that heal your soul and re-ground you. In order to be the best person you can be, you have to take care of yourself and check-in with what YOU need.

  • Be kind

You never know exactly what people are going through so be kind to yourself and be kind to others.

  • The harder you work, the luckier you get

When you put a lot of effort into something, you are going to see a promising return. Sometimes working hard takes a lot out of you but you see the payoff and you see the results at some point.

  • This is probably the most important piece of advice I have ever been given by one of the most important people in my life: Always choose a partner who above everything else, will show you honor

If your partner does not honor you, honor themselves, and honor the people around you then they should not be in your life. They should be your partner and honoring and respecting your partner is one of the keys to a successful relationship and it goes both ways. I take this advice wherever I go and it is one of the most meaningful pieces of advice I have ever received.

I hope you carry some of this advice with you throughout your life. What is some of the best advice you have received? Let me know. Don’t forget to stay vibin!
